'
Earlier
in the week (Tuesday), I met with two fans of my work, Alan and Garry,
to conduct an Internet interview. I believe it will go up on the 'Permanent
Flame' website very soon. The pair were intelligent, polite and considerate,
which is more than can be said for many of the professional journalists
I've encountered over the years.
One item that they brought to show me was an album of bits n' bobs from the time when I used to hang out at 'Holy Ground' studios in the late sixties. It contained a large booklet full of photos and local press cuttings, most of which I hadn't seen at least for around thirty years. There was a picture of me, complete with neat beard and 'tache, standing next to a lithe, blond 'dolly bird' in a Quant style mini-dress. She was holding my Gibson 345 stereo guitar whilst I glowered into the camera, trying to look mean and moody. I'd forgotten all about her, can't even remember her name now, but I'm extremely grateful to her for the flood of warm nostalgia that filled my heart when I saw the photograph of us both, forever locked in that black n white square of endless possibility, so many years ago. To have it suddenly return to my consciousness on Tuesday afternoon was a wonderful surprise. ' |
And lo and behold! - the said photo!!

The photo above
was taken when we were making the 'A to Austr' album. The cover
picture, later turned into a screen print, was of Mike Levon and
Chris Coombs sat at a table, with four women standing round them.
The women were: Shirley Levon, Mike's wife; Yvonne Carrodus, Chris' girlfriend at the time; Denise (a friend of Gail's); and Gail Carrodus, Yvonne's sister Another shot
from the session ended up on the Loose Routes album (a vinyl release
no longer available). An additional figure appears in the background
