HERE WE ARE AGAIN
OK, so it's been ages since the last newsletter - but we are back with a new, slicker, one page format which will be easier to make, and so will now arrive bi-monthly - promise!
ACETATE AUCTION
Bryan Holden, drummer in the '60s and '70s with Bill Nelson and Al Quinn - "Global Village" - offered his own copy of a rare acetate for auction on eBay. The acetate, one of three, was made from the first three tracks ever recorded by Bill and the band, at Holyground in 1968. Bryan will be donating half the income from the auction to the hospice in Wakefield, Bill's home town.
The auction ended on Sunday 8th October at a massive £320. It's fitting, however, that it won't be leaving Wakefield - the auction winner lives in the city! His last bid of £10 took it away from a Leeds fan who had led the auction all week. He will meet Mike and Bryan Holden next week to receive the disc and collected info.
Bill has one of the other two copies. He won't part with it though. He says "I want to keep it ! It sounds like it was pressed in 1920 on a wax cylinder. It sounds great ! ".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US, HAPPY . . .
40 years ago the first record bearing the name HOLYGROUND was recorded in 1966-7: ' NUMBER NINE BREAD STREET'.
A YEAR OF 16 MONTHS
So we are celebrating from the last month to December 2007 - well if the '60s didn't fit properly in that decade, why shouldn't we have a 16 month year? We started with Bryan's auction of the Bill Nelson acetate, and, fingers crossed, will end in December 2007 with the release of 'IN AND OUT OF TIME' by The Wires, (Chris Coombs, Mike Levon & Pete Taylor).

CHARITY RECORD Chris Coombs has been hard at work with others on a project which will raise money for UNICEF. Chris is mainly involved recording performances of his song 'Christmas is a Feeling' for a single by, er, Christmas. Although the music is not Holyground-like - think early Charlotte Church - it will be available through the HG site. Mike's part in this is to record the two versions (Emley Brass Band, Emley school children, the Woodsome Singers, and a variety of soloists). I hoped to have a picture of the trial run recording - but Chris took the picture - tried anyway. Here it is - the feet are Chris's.
